The Royal Bank of Scotland has
just issued its first fifty pound banknote since 1727 and has chosen to feature a picture of Inverness Castle on the reverse to recognise the growing importance of the 'Highland Capital' (
apart from having been my birthplace, of course!). The decision apparently came about as a result of a suggestion by a member of staff at the Harbour Road main office in Inverness during a recent visit by RBS Group Chief Executive Sir Fred Goodwin. The new note was unveiled at Inverness Castle.
