Václav Havel died today, aged 75 years. He had fought over many years for an end to Communism in Czechoslovakia and in 1989 led the "Velvet Revolution" which finally toppled the regime. In June 1990 he became President of Czechoslovakia and after Slovakia broke away, the first President of the Czech Republic in February 1993, a position he held until February 2003.
