Good riddance, Reverend Thomas Mackinnon!

This kind of idiot is why I will have nothing to do with his Church or indeed any other organised form of sky-fairy worship! The humility and geneorsity of spirit I thought typified Christianity seems to have completely passed bigots like Mackinnon by.

    To be honest, I never understand why a person's sexual preferences need to be public, except of course in a very few vocations. Religious preachers aren't one of them.

    In other words, "don't talk about it" - in some ways I'd be happy to agree with you, but it leads to all sorts of [un]intended consequences.

    For example, you arrive in the office of a Monday morning (or back in barracks if you're in the military) and the normal conversation ensues about what people did at the weekend. Most will reply (the men present), oh I took the wife/girlfriend to the cinema/restaurant and we had a great time. No problems. One fellow says, Oh I took the boyf to thhe cinema/restaurant and it was great - if that was just as acceptable, then all would be hunky-dory, but most probably all h**l breaks loose, far too often! Why?

    Frankly I think you are being hypocritical - I have grown weary of telling lies or keeping schtum to protect the sensibilities of people like you - I have one life to live and I am no longer willing to play this game. I don't want anyone's sexual preferences to be public, but only yesterday out of my window I watched a very attractive male/female couple having a perfectly normal lengthy 'snogging' session - I live in a very attractive and scenic spot close to the beach where people often come for sunset walks (it is very beautiful) and I often see people walking by holding hands and 'making out' in one way or the other. I don't particularly wish to see this, but nor am I going to make a song and dance about it. If a male/male or a female/female couple could behave similarly and have their behaviour go completely unremarked then I for one would be very happy. We live in a world, however, where biogted comments such as yours are seemingly the acceptable 'currency' of debate - well, it is not acceptable here, thankyou very much!

    I think Mackinnon is a bigot. Period. Rennie was good in Brechin, by all accounts, and was overwhelmingly acceptable to those that matter in Aberdeen who accepted him as their Minister. It is only bigots who are making a noise about it, under very transparently homophobic pretexts.

    The bottom line is not whether idealistic utopias like social justice or benign capitalism are right or wrong. The bottom line is whether the practitioners of either are normal, sane people or are exploitative, mad, driven monsters, indifferent to the suffering of others around them. Naturally, that's a sliding scale, isn't it?

    It's not so much the idea but the practitioner which makes it acceptable or unpleasant.

    My first instincts were correct when I read your comment. I have now read what I think is your referenced article and watched a part of the video-clip embedded in it. It is quite obvious that your comment here, as I suspected, has absolutely no connection with or relevance to the article to which it is attached; it is basically a 'spam comment' seemingly designed to try and get people to visit your blog; I will leave your comment in place this time, but further similar comments bearing no relevance to the article to which they are attached will be deleted.
