A man reportedly (according to New Bedford Police Capt. Richard Spirlet) walked into Puzzles Lounge in New Bedford, Mass. asking if it was a gay bar. When told that it was he ordered a couple of drinks then attacked some other customers with a hatchet or machete, before pulling out a gun and starting to shoot. Other reports here and here.
The last report linked to above gives rather more detail as it was evidently filed somewhat later than the others. It states that the police are searching for an individual named Jacob D. Robida, aged 18. As an aside, here was me thinking that the age at which one can legally drink alcohol in the US is 21 (unless Massachusetts has a different age)!
UPDATE: (Sunday 5FEB05 12.25 GMT) The teenage suspect (Jacob D. Robida) has been caught after a shootout with police in which a policeman was gunned down and his female companion was killed. Of the three injured, one remains in critical condition.
2nd UPDATE: (Wednesday 8FEB05 01.55 GMT) I am now a little confused. This latest report says that Robida in fact 'fatally shot himself' during the police shootout reported immediately above, rather than having been shot by police, according to an autopsy report.
