Ford US reverses last week's gay advertising ban

Ford in the US has decided yesterday to reverse its decision last week to cease advertising its Jaguar and Land Rover brands, because of pressure from the AFA (American Family Association), a pressure group advocating 'tradtional family values' and which has anti-homosexual policies. Reuters quote Joe Laymon, Ford's group vice president for corporate human resources, as saying: "It is my hope that this will remove any ambiguity about Ford's desire to advertise to all important audiences and put this particular issue behind us". I suspect strongly that a rapid reassessment of its own corporate long-term interests has brought Ford back to a position in conformity with its long-standing even-handed attitude toward the gay community.
