Saudi Arabia sentences 100+ gay men to flogging and imprisonment
More than 100 gay men have been sentenced in Saudi Arabia to various levels of punishment involving flogging and imprisonment after being arrested in March for 'deviant sexual behaviour' (see my earlier article about this here).
I concur with the view of Scott Long, director of Human Rights Watch's LGBT Rights Program:
"Subjecting the victims to floggings is torture, pure and simple."
- of course, they shouldn't be sent to prison, either, merely for being gay.
