Sgt. Robert Stout, a 23 year old in the US army's 9th Engineer Battalion based in Schweinfurt, Germany, is very happy to continue with military service, but not at the cost of having to lie about himself, a necessity imposed upon him by the don't ask, don't tell policy currently in force in the US for military service involving gays. The sky, it seems, has not fallen in in the UK with the change in policy here a few years back, relating to military service by homosexuals.
The military in most countries tries to inculcate decency and honesty amongst its personnel. Apparently different rules apply in the US.
